About Natural Health and Healing

I am a Registered Nurse by profession. I have been nursing for 30 years and in that time I have seen many, many changes in healthcare, diseases and treatments. The main scenario for healthcare is illness driven and providers; M.D.s, nurse practicioners,  and physicians assistants, prescribe medications to treat these illnesses. This creates an endless loop of more prescribing because many medications have side effects that need to be managed with yet, you guessed it, another medication! I have also witnessed the advent of “super bugs” namely;Methacillin Resistant Staph Aureus (MRSA) and it’s cousin,Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus (VRE). These “super bugs” have developed from the overuse of antibiotics. While we could point fingers at healthcare providers, they are only giving the consumer what they want. Who wants to go to the Doctor’s office and hear the truth?! We want a quick fix; a pill, an inhaler, a prescription to make it better. When a long time smoker goes to the doctor’s office feeling short of breath, they don’t want to be told to quit smoking, they want to be able to breathe! So the provider prescribes. The patient leaves the office with a quick fix; a handful of pills, inhalers and pamphlets on programs to quit smoking, and the problem is solved, for the moment. It isn’t going to get better, go away on it’s own or disappear-unless the patient takes a personal responsibility for their own health. These “super bugs” have developed because of the use of antibiotics and people not finishing their prescriptions. Average microbes (bugs) have become smarter and smarter; thus, the old antibiotics do not “kill” them anymore. In our modern world we all want quick fixes; common childhood maladies like simple ear infections are prescribed antibiotics, we all use antibacterial soaps, deodorants, and treat small scrapes and cuts with antibiotic ointments. Some people feel our own immune systems aren’t capable of keeping us healthy because we haven’t developed our natural immune response in our bodies.

A few years ago I became very sick. It puzzled the many Doctors I had and they ordered many, many tests including CT scans, MRI’s, blood work, and things I had never heard of. My main malady was simply “fever of unknown origin”. As the testing progressed, my list of Doctors grew, my medical bills got out of hand and my bank account shrunk to nothing. After everything was said and done, the best guess was some evil “auto-immune” disorder; think MS (multiple sclerosis). I started reading voraciously. I came across alot of information that “spoke to me” and I decided that the best approach was one of body, mind, spirit. I learned about homeopathic medicine and the teachings of Dr. Hahnemann and his view of “like cures like”.  In our modern world gone mad, this simply made a lot of sense. I read articles in nursing journals, popular magazines, newspapers and even Reader’s Digest about the frightening “studies” of new drugs and how the results are skewed to get whatever it is to the market; and it is alarming. Who hasn’t heard of at least one drug pulled off the shelves AFTER  many deaths, or life altering disorders?! Given all this information, I put this website together to help you, the reader, obtain information, products and complementary therapies all in one place. As with anything, please check with your healthcare provider BEFORE starting anything that may interfere with, or treat any disorder or illness you may be seeking advice and information about.  Please use the opt-in box at the top right for my newsletter and informaton on new products.
